The client presented with strong feelings of apprehension in terms of applying for jobs due to the negative and discriminatory practices she experienced whilst at work which seriously affected her mental health.  The client emphasized that she wanted to talk about her past experiences despite it being painful in order to process them thus coming to a place of acceptance to move forward with her life.

The therapeutic relationship elicited self-awareness and confidence within the client as she was able to shift the negative perception of herself as she recognised her positive qualities, values and strengths which demonstrated her emotional resilience and self-worth.  The therapeutic process allowed the client to find her voice, to assert herself and open up the lines of communication to regain and stand in her power.

The client expressed that the sessions changed her life and that she was ready psychologically, mentally and emotionally to start applying for jobs.

The client was referred to the Pure Insights counselling programme for anxiety. The client was very apprehensive that counselling would help them, and described themselves as extremely unmotivated, the counsellor spoke with them in detail about what the programme offered and said they could try and see how they felt afterwards.

Over the counselling sessions the counsellor supported the client with managing a range of barriers to increasing their wellbeing, including alcohol misuse and having no contact with their children. By the last session the client was demonstrating a more positive mindset, was able to establish contact and regain access to their children and is looking forward to the future.

The client said the counselling has helped them to feel differently about themselves,
increasing their confidence and wanting to make positive change. This is the longest period this client has had out of prison and is feeling motivated to continue with this path.
